What does it mean to be a Custodian?

I searched merriam-webster.com for the definition and the meaning according to merriam-webster is :

cus·to·di·an
one that guards and protects or maintains; especially : one entrusted with guarding and keeping property or records or with custody or guardianship of prisoners or inmates

Now wait a minute....let's bring this into the context of my new position title and my role in this organization.

One that guards....I can relate to that, as a risk manager, I should never let my guard down and always remain guarded. As a financial risk manager, my role is to guard , protect the organization financial risk exposures within the acceptable risk return profile.
One entrusted with guarding and keeping property or records....I relate to that in every decision made is to be documented, keeping property? That depends on what property we are referring to but I am struggling with that definitioin.
Custody or guardianship of prisoners or inmates? Naaahhh...let's not call all FRM staff prisoners or inmates, shall we? I thought they loved working in FRM...let's take that as my guardianship role in developing future custodians, shall we?

I feel so much better now.
